The reserve World Young Horse champion Secret was the most popular breeding stallions for Hanoverian horse breeders in 2022. He tops the leader board in most foals registered Hanoverian in 2023.
Secret, (by Sezuan x St. Moritz) was also the second most used stallion in Oldenburg in 2022 but in Hanover he leads the ranking. No less than 187 foals born in 2023 were registered Hanoverian, which makes this private owned stallion the most popular sire in that breeding area. It will be interesting to see where Gestut W.M.'s Secret will be in next year's ranking as he did not stand at stud fresh in 2023.
Ranking second is the Celle state stud owned Von Und Zu (by Vitalis x Floriscount) ) who has 154 foals born and registered Hanoverian in 2023 behind his name. The 2021 performance test high scorer sired 154 Hanoverian foals in 2023.
The third ranked stallion is Klosterhof Medingen's Hanoverian bred and initially Westfalian Escaneno (by Escamillo x Veneno). The 2024 stallion sport test winner had 138 Hanoverian foals born in 2023.
Several interesting trends are to be noticed with Hanoverian breeders. Not a single Helgstrand stallion has made it into the top 10 and only one Paul Schockemöhle co-owned stallion did: Vitalis in seventh place with 109 foals born. Two jumper stallions made it into the top 19: Diathletico and Diacontinus.
