There were high spirits all round at the annual Elite Dressage Open Day in Devon, UK, on 11 - 13 August 2023.  International GP riders and guests from across Europe gathered to enjoy champagne in the sunshine and view this year’s crop of foals being assessed and graded by the Uk Hanoverian as part of Elite Dressage’s prolific breeding programme in collaboration with Newton Stud.

The outstanding Champion and Elite colt, Newton Benitoite (by Blue Hors Baron x De Niro x Likotus) bred by Elite Dressage, was snapped up on the day by eagle eyed purchasers from Ireland as his powerful movement and elegant type wowed the judges. Another top colt scoring a high premium Newton Zabouche (by Blue Hors Zackorado x Ampere x Sydney) was secured for the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the stunning Champion filly Newton Jagarbomb (by Jovian x Fidertanz x Caprimond) – who shares a grand dam with the double world champion Woodlander Farouche - will be retained for future breeding and training.  This is a hallmark strategy of the stud, who have a successful embryo transfer programme in place, enabling them to successfully combine top level competing for their ridden mares alongside breeding from them, without interruption or loss of performance.

An example of this was the fabulous filly Zollorada (by Blue Hors Zackorado x Ampere x Sydney), who is a daughter of the international Grand Prix and British Team mare Habouche.  Zollorada was conceived via embryo transfer alongside Holly’s busy international schedule and the filly was sold to become a foundation breeding mare for White House Dressage alongside another filly, Newton Fiorente (by Extra Gold x Franklin x Floriscount) and Newton Sancerre (by San Amour x Rubin Royal x Furst Romancier) who was purchased in utero last year.  They will carry the WHD prefix going forward as part of this exciting new GB based breeding programme.

International GP rider Anna Jesty lost no time in snapping up Newton Verve (by Va Bene x Franklin x Floriscount) who is out of her own Newton Fiorella, again by embryo transfer.  He came away scoring 9 for his trot and 8.3 overall obtaining Premium status.

Anna Jesty explained, ‘I’m grateful to all involved in this and super excited for his future, for now he gets to spend his baby years being a horse and playing in the countryside at Newton Stud with his friends!’

Other notable foal sales included Newton Zackory (by Zackorado x Glocks Trafalgar x Gribaldi), and Zacinto (by Zackorado x Laudabilis x Florestan) who were all purchased by UK buyers.

The day also managed to raise funds for the Emilie Faurie Foundation with delighted winners of the raffle receiving personal thanks from Emile himself who came to enjoy the day and view the youngsters.
