Madeleine Winter-Schulze, Germany's most important sponsor of equestrian sport and the owner of Isabell Werth's top horses, has fractured her femur at the 2019 CDI-W Salzburg.

Madeleine made an unfortunate fall when Werth's horse Quintus (by Quaterback) took a step backwards at the entrance of the arena and bumped into Winter-Schulze. She fractured her femur and had to be transported to the local hospital, where she was successfully operated on.

This is the second time in two years that the Winter-Schulze sustained a femur fracture. The first time it happened to her other leg at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

Winter-Schulze is in good spirits and on the road to recovery.

The 78-year old Winter-Schulze inherited her fortune from father Eduard,  a prosperous businessman through his license to bottle Coca Cola in Germany and as the chief representative for Volkswagen in the Berlin area. Madeleine sponsors Isabell Werth, Ludger Beerbaum and Ingrid Klimke.

Werth has been riding for Winter-Schulze since 2001 after leaving her mentor Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer.
