Bits 'n Pieces

Haras de Hus, one of France's leading dressage and show jumping breeding farms, has not sold in the three years it's been on the market and the yard is now being publicly listed for sale for 20 million euro.

Haras de Hus in Petit-Mars, France, is owned by entrepreneur Xavier Marie who founded the furniture company Maison du Monde.

Xavier Marie

Marie established the breeding farm and equestrian centre in 2004 and he arrived on the scene as a brand new investor spending millions on building horse stock. His name first popped up in 2005 when he bought World champion mare Poetin in an executorial sale for 900,000 euro. Three months later the mare foundered and Marie ended up suing the bank. The court ruled in favour of the bank.

At the same time he also bought young dressage stallions Don Juan de Hus and Soliman de Hus, and older stallion Worldly.

De Hus Sport Success

His first international success arrived with jumping rider Kevin Staut on Silvana, who won team gold at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and became a World Number One. Dressage rider Jessica Michel took Riwera de Hus to the 2012 Olympic Games, 2013 European Championship and 2014 World Equestrian Games.

Slowly Marie's attention moved away from dressage and to show jumping, a discipline in which more prestige and money was to be made and quicker success to be achieved. Marie sponsored riders such as Michel Robert and Gregory Wathelet, as well as eventer Nicolas Touzaint.

Grand Prix dressage no longer seemed a goal and the dressage horses were sold faster as rising FEI horses instead of retaining them for top sport. In 2017 Marie also opened his doors to traveling clients for dressage and as of 2018 Jessica Michel was put on a part-time pay roll as she was allowed to develop their own business on the yard with external clients. The jumping riders were on a full-time pay roll and were allowed to invite clients over as of 2019.

Property For Sale

In 2020  Marie put entire Haras de Hus up for sale as a package: a 120 hectare property with the castle Pont-Hus, the equestrian centre with the breeding barn, reproduction centre, and rearing stables, as well as the sport and breeding horses.

Haras de Hus was listed for sale with Sotheby’s but the price was kept confidential.

Three years later the property is now offered separate from the horses for  21,200,000 euro (agency fees of 1.2M included). Another agent, Le Nail, charges a lower commission fee (966,000)
