The KWPN board has made an unprecedented decision to allow the 3-year old colts, that were newly approved at the 2020 KWPN Stallion Licensing, to breed this 2020 season without having done the mandatory performance test.

In principle the 2020 KWPN Spring stallion performance testing was supposed to start in Ermelo on Monday 16 March 2020, but because of the corona virus in The Netherlands, it was decided to cancel the event.

"It is unclear which necessary measures the (Dutch) government will be taking in the next few weeks. These circumstances make it uncertain whether the spring testing will even take place," said the KWPN press office.

The board of directors has made the extraordinary decision to allow the 2020 approved colts to breed this season without a performance test.

"The board believes that breeding in general will not benefit if the newly approved colts from Den Bosch - if they pass veterinary inspection - are not allowed to breed this year," said the KWPN office. "That is why it has been decided to give a breeding license to the 2020 approved Gelderlander and riding stallions that have passed all veterinary requirements for this breeding season (end date 1 October 2020).

The stallions will still have to do their performance test to obtain full licensed status later on.

The newly approved colts will only be allowed to breed if they have class 1 and 2 X-rays, comply to the conditions set for roaring and have developed good breathing, and have good quality semen and a sufficiently developed reproduction organ.

In the second part of April, the KWPN society will publish the list of young stallions that have met these requirements, with inclusion of their OC-breeding value and WFFS status.
