Dutch Grand Prix rider Joyce Lenaerts had to say goodbye to her number one Grand Prix horse Ubique. The gelding was 18 years old.

Ubique was a Dutch warmblood gelding by Welt Hit II out of Liqueur (by Cocktail), bred by S. Roomans.

The pair made its international show debut in the young horses classes at the 2006 Sunshine Tour in Vejer. They returned to the CDI ring at small tour level at the 2010 CDI Zwolle. She premiered him at Grand Prix level at the 2013 CDI Pompadour.

Their highlight year was certainly in 2015 when the duo actively competed internationally at CDI's in Barcelona, Treffen, Mallorca, Biarritz and Lier.  Lenaerts last competed Ubique at the CDI Oliva Nova in Spain in April 2016. At this event the horse injured his right hind cannon bone by kicking again the stall door.

Lenaerts believed this injury would be career ending but the horse returned to fitness and showed in an Intermediaire II class at one regional show in The Netherlands in February 2017.

Unfortunately Ubique started to suffer from Cushing's disease and had to be medicated, which made him positive to any type of doping test and no longer suitable for showing.

"Because of the medication it wasn't possible to compete him any longer and I was forced to pull him from sport," Lenaerts told Eurodressage. "But with the amount of Cushing he had it was better that way. Last Saturday he got very ill and foundered. None of the medication caught and he was in so much pain. We had no other choice than to euthanize him."

The Leende based dressage rider has been focusing on her youngstock since then. She has been actively showing fledglings George (by Johnson x Chronos), Hero (by Johnson x Ferro), Euro (by Voice x Briar); and Iconic B (by Bing x Jazz) in the young horse classes the past two years.

Iconic B took her to he 208 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, where they were 8th in the consolation finals. New comer Coffeebay, a 10-year old Rhinelander by Christ x Donnerruf, owned by the Thai Pawarisa Thingpradup, was shown in the small tour at the 2019 CDI Lier in Belgium.

"I have kept Euro home for a year and a half to prepare him for Grand Prix. I plan to make that transition with him soon," Lenaerts added about her future Grand Prix horse. "Coffeebay is the horse of my Thai client and I'll show him a few more times at small tour."
